Global Balance, Local Betrayal: The Evidence They Can’t Applaud

Dear Editor,
What an insensitive, awful statement by Guyana Vice President (VP) Bharrat Jagdeo (who does not have doctorate by the way and should not be addressed as doctor since an honorary conferral does not provide that right and allowing that right to someone who has not earned it is an insult to all who have toiled and sacrificed to earn it).
The implication of ‘they kill journalists in other places’ is horrific. The VP is urged to take back that statement and apologise to the hard working journalistic fraternity in Guyana, many of whom risk danger in ensuring that Guyanese are fed all sides to the news on a daily basis. As journalist of thirty years plus practice and experience I know first hand about those dangers and the toil.
Yours truly,
Annan Boodram
