Sport, fundamentally, is about competition. For every sporting outfit, the fight to establish superiority between teams is at the very core of the game. Healthy rivalry is what creates the pulsating, angst-inducing excitement cricket fans love.

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup West Indies & USA 2024 will be the biggest, best, and most “Out of this World” cricket event ever held. For that reason, it starts with a bang.

The group stage of competition takes place between 1 and 17 June. During these first days, fans will see a few of the best-known cricket rivalries continue their decades-long fights to be crowned World Champions. The intensity of competition between these giants is as strong as the contingent of fans who travel the world in support of their favourite teams.

If the three major match-ups are not enough to whet your appetite, there’s also the fact that two of the three will take place in the new Nassau County Cricket Stadium in New York City. What better place to square off against worthy opponents than the place where big dreams become reality – the Big Apple.

Let’s take a closer look at the match-ups.

Group A. India vs. Pakistan – Sunday 9 June 2024 – New York City

Historically, India and Pakistan are known rivals on many levels. Cricket greats of both countries like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Anil Kumble, Mohammad Yousuf, Younis Khan, and Shoaib Akhtar have fought battles on many a cricket pitch, including past ICC Men’s T20 World Cups. It is no surprise then that millions in both home countries and among their vast diaspora will anxiously and excitedly anticipate this Group A match. India and Pakistan will also be among the first teams to experience the 34,000-capacity Nassau County Stadium. Both countries are equally passionate and the match will be sure to add major excitement to the tournament.

Group B. Australia vs. England – Saturday 8 June 2024 – Barbados

Arguably the most well-known of rivalries, the cricketing feud between England and Australia dates back to the 19th century and unsurprisingly, was fueled by the media of the time. Since then, matches between these teams have always been highly anticipated and celebrated for their excitement and incredible sportsmanship. Just as the teams will face off on the pitch, expect the Barmy Army to have a fun fan face-off of their own.

Group C – West Indies vs. New Zealand – 12 June 2024 – Trinidad

As adversaries go, West Indies and New Zealand are not the biggest. However, both teams do have something to prove. The Windies are the joint most successful team in the tournament’s history, and while New Zealand have never had a taste of T20 World Cup silverware, their strong limited-overs squad gives them as good a chance as any in 2024. In this match-up, the full spectacle of carnival cricket will be on display in the land of carnival itself – Trinidad. Caribbean revelers will be out in their numbers united in a mission – to ensure the Black Caps feel the heat of the competition.

Finally, we must give honourable mention to first timers USA and Canada, who will debut their cricketing skills on Sunday 1 June at the Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium in Dallas, Texas. Traditionally rivals in other sports, from baseball to hockey and certainly the Olympics, the two nations will take to the field to let the leather and willow separate the winners from the losers.

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup West Indies & USA 2024 will feature 55 matches in total consisting of 40 group matches, 12 Super 8 matches, 2 semi-finals and 1 final. See the complete list of fixtures here. https://www.icc-cricket.com/news/groups-fixtures-confirmed-for-icc-men-s-t20-world-cup-2024
