Former Georgetown Mayor Pt. Ubraj Narine last evening attended the grand celebration of India’s 75th Republic Anniversary as the Vice Chairman of the Institute For Action Against Discrimination (IFAAD). The event marked the milestone of India’s independence and highlighted its achievements and progress.
The Government and people of India share a long relationship with the Guyana. This relationship not only includes labour brought from India to Guyana, but at the indigenous level of government, dating back to the pre-independence era when Mr. Forbes Burnham and Dr. Cheddi Jagan engaged leaders of India as they pursued independence for Guyana.

Narine told Village Voice News he wants to build on and maintain this relationship as IFAAD seeks wider alliances, learning and benefiting from others in the organisation’s quest to end all forms of discrimination, and work for the achievement of racial harmony and prosperity for all Guyanese.

The former mayor also sees his participation at the event reflecting his dedication to social causes, and says the event was a momentous occasion for citizens and also the entire global community. He notes, “India’s remarkable journey of progress and development has inspired countless individuals worldwide.”
