Heartfelt wishes to all Guyanese for a joyous Christmas. May this festive season bring you moments of peace, reflection and the company of those dear to you. We know of the many daunting challenges we faced, and the struggles we endured to make it to this day. However, we remain grateful that through it all we have overcome. Today, we celebrate life and engage in jollification and merriment with our families, friends and loved ones.

As we indulge in giving gifts and exchanging pleasantries, let us also spare a thought for the environment, particularly at this time of Climate Change and Global Warming. Let us contemplate ways by which we can do more to preserve and protect nature’s precious gift to us, and to think about leaving a legacy of a healthy environment, free from the burden of pollution for the next generation. One way we can do this is by avoiding being wasteful. Let us give instead of throwing away foods; let us reuse and recycle those things that can; let us respect and care for the environment by paying attention to the way we dispose of our refuse, and generally the way we treat our physical surroundings.

Also, I ask that we join hands to help those, who are poor and needy among us, showing kindness and reaching out to those who are shut in, and unable to help themselves. Let us reach out and touch in this yuletide season, be our brothers and sisters’ keepers, especially in this time of hardship in our country. Let us share with each other that notwithstanding the pervasive hardship we can put cheer in one’s heart and a smile on a face.

From my family to yours, here’s wishing you
