The Institute for Action Against Discrimination (IFAAD), a leading human rights organisation, is expressing deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the five brave men in the Guyana Defence Force who tragically lost their lives, reportedly in a helicopter accident between last Wednesday and Thursday. Brigadier (Rtd) Gary Beaton, Commander of the 1st Infantry Battalion, Col. Michael Shahoud, Pilot Lt. Col. Michael Charles, Lt. Col. Sean Welcome, and Sgt. Jason Khan, will forever be remembered for their heroic service and selfless dedication, the Institute says.
“These fallen soldiers have made the ultimate sacrifice in their line of duty, defending our country and protecting their fellow citizens. Their unwavering commitment to service and their bravery are an inspiration to all.”
IFAAD recognises that these men have not only embodied courage and honor throughout their military careers, but they have also stood as role models, upholding the principles of equality, justice, and inclusivity. Their contributions to the Guyana Defence Force and their commitment to safeguarding the nation will never be forgotten.
In light of these tragic events, IFAAD calls upon the PPP government to provide the necessary support and assistance to the families of these fallen heroes. It is imperative that their loved ones are offered the respect, care, and empathy they deserve during this difficult time.
In memory of Brigadier (Rtd) Gary Beaton, Col. Michael Shahoud, Lt. Col. Michael Charles, Lt. Col. Sean Welcome, and Sgt. Jason Khan, our thoughts and prayers are with their families, friends, and colleagues. May they find solace and strength in their memories and the knowledge that their loved ones made an indelible mark on the defense and security of our nation.
The Institute For Action Against Discrimination also wishes to express gratitude to Lieutenant Andio Crawford and Corporal Dwayne Jackson for their service during this incident.
