Police are investigating a fatal incident which occurred on Sunday, December 03, 2023, at about 18:50 hrs, on Borlam Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice, which resulted in the death of 18-year-old Marvin Ishmile.
The incident involved a minibus #PPP 391, owned by Deonauth Moses called ‘Chinick’, a businessman of Betsy Ground Village in East Canje Berbice and driven by Marvin Ishmile, an 18-year-old of Betsy Ground, and occupant Rai Badree, a 60-year-old from the same village.
Initial investigations revealed that the minibus was proceeding west on the road at a fast rate when the teenage driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a heap of sand on the southern side of the road. This caused the vehicle to topple several times. As a result, the driver and the occupant sustained injuries on their bodies.
The driver and the occupant were taken out of the vehicle by public-spirited persons. The driver was in an unconscious condition. They were taken to the New Amsterdam public hospital where the driver was seen and examined by a doctor on duty who pronounced him dead on arrival. The occupant was treated and later sent away.
The body was taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital’s mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
