The Institute For Action Against Discrimination (IFAAD) is demanding an independent investigation into discriminatory practices and alleged misconduct at the Ministry of Housing and Water under the Irfaan Ali-led PPP Government.

In a release the body says it is raising serious concerns regarding the alleged discriminatory practices and alleged cooperation by ministers and staff members within the ministry and wants to see an immediate independent investigation to unearth the truth and ensure justice prevails within said ministry.

The institute notes discrimination within any governmental institution is an affront to justice, equal opportunity, and the principles of democracy. “Understanding the detrimental consequences such actions can have on marginalised communities, IFAAD finds it essential to carry out a thorough examination of these allegations.”

The organisation says no less than an independent investigation will do since this will help shed light on any discriminatory acts and misconduct that have taken place within the Ministry of Housing and Water.

To this end IFAAD is strongly urging the Ali-led PPP government to initiate an unbiased, independent inquiry into these allegations to ensure the veracity of claims, hold accountable those responsible for discrimination, and restore trust in the public. “It is paramount that this investigation be conducted with transparency, integrity, and a commitment to upholding the principles of justice.”

IFAAD Vice Chairman, former Mayor Pt. Ubraj Narine

Mr. Ubraj Narine, spokesperson of IFAAD, states, “We firmly believe in the principles of equality and fairness, which form the core values of any democratic society. Discriminatory practices compromise these principles and hinder the progress of inclusive governance. We call upon the Ali-led PPP government to take immediate action and address these deeply concerning allegations.”

IFAAD says the body recognises the importance of unbiased investigations in uncovering the truth and promoting transparency, accountability, and inclusivity.

“By conducting an independent investigation into the Ministry of Housing and Water, the Ali-led PPP government has the opportunity to showcase its commitment towards eradicating discrimination and ensuring that all citizens are treated fairly and equitably.”
