Georgetown, Guyana – The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has proudly welcomed 223 Private (PTE) soldiers into its ranks, marking the successful completion of an intensive 16-week induction training program. This year’s parade, unique in its execution in battle order, represented a significant milestone for the GDF and the newly inducted soldiers.

The rigorous training regimen, designed to transform civilians into soldiers of discipline and skill, included a comprehensive array of modules. These focused on developing loyalty, physical fitness, obedience, and discipline, along with advanced infantry skills and marksmanship competencies. The aim was to mold these individuals into soldiers ready to serve with distinction.

At the closing ceremony, Colonel Michael Shahoud, Commander of the First Infantry Battalion, delivered an inspiring speech. He emphasized the significance of the training as both an end and a beginning, highlighting the ongoing journey of learning and skill acquisition that lies ahead for the new soldiers. His words served as a reminder of the commitment and dedication required in military life.

The ceremony also included recognition of outstanding achievements among the recruits. PTE Junior Willis was honored as the Best Graduating Student and received the Best Military Knowledge award. PTE Javon Lynch was the proud Runner-Up Student. The title of Best Shot was earned by PTE Gabriel Lynch, demonstrating exceptional marksmanship. PTE Trevlon Sutton was recognized for Best Fitness, showcasing outstanding physical capabilities. The award for Best Drill went to PTE Thifiney Jacobs, and the collective effort of the Number Three Platoon was recognized with the Best Platoon trophy, highlighting teamwork and unity.

This induction of new soldiers into the Guyana Defence Force marks a significant step forward in strengthening the nation’s military capabilities and readiness. The commitment and skill of these new soldiers, as demonstrated throughout their training and recognized in the ceremony, are a testament to the GDF’s dedication to excellence and national defense.
