Mrs. Evelyn Hamilton, former Chief Planning Officer in the Ministry of Education, has died.

It is with deep sadness that the Education Family learned of the death of Ms. Evelyn Hamilton AA, a former Chief Planning Officer within the Ministry of Education.

The Honourable Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand and the staff of the Ministry of Education extend sincerest condolences to Ms. Hamilton’s family, friends, colleagues and the entire education fraternity.

Ms. Hamilton joined the Ministry of Education in September 1977 as an Economist. In May 1986, she served as the Ministry’s Deputy Education Planning Officer.

In 1987, Ms. Hamilton was appointed as the Ministry of Education’s Chief Planning Officer before she retired in 2002. She was then reemployed as served in the same capacity until 2019.

Ms. Evelyn Hamilton will be remembered for her dedication to the education sector and her humility during her years of service.

President Irfaan Ali issued the following statement:

I am deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Everlyn Hamilton, A.A., former Chief Planning Officer at the Ministry of Education and Chairperson of the National Commission on Disability. Ms Hamilton was a distinguished servant of Guyana’s education sector. I extend my heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. May her soul rest in peace.
