The Institute For Action Against Discrimination (IFAAD) commends the Guyana Caribbean Institute for Democracy (GCID) on the planned Washington Conference on Guyana which will be held today and tomorrow, September 27th to 28th 2023, respectively.
IFAAD in a release observed the theme of the Conference: “Promoting inclusive governance, inclusive economic growth, equal justice, social equality, and sustainable development for all Guyanese in an era of oil and gas,” is most appropriate given the state of national governance.
IFAAD, which is participating in the conference, believes the forum is a significant impetus that will inevitably result in political and governance reformation for the benefit of all Guyanese.
CGID, in a statement said delegates attending the conference will also brief White House officials, as well as officials from the State Department, Justice Department and FBI and US Exim Bank on the situation in Guyana. Delegates will also meet with key Members of Congress and US Senators, and there will be a meeting with the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC).
Opposition Members Of Parliament will also be meeting the House Democratic Leader Congressman, Hakeem Jeffries and other members of the House of Representatives and CBC. They are: Aubrey Norton (Leader of the Opposition), Dawn Hastings-Williams, Ganesh Mahipaul, Roysdale Forde S.C, Catherine Hughes, Deonarine Ramsaroop, David Patterson, Amanza Walton-Desir, Nima Flue-Bess and Vincent Henry.
IFAAD, in wishing the organisers all the best, has also encouraged Guyanese organisations/individuals in the diaspora and Guyana to support the conference and offer recommendations and solutions to address the deficiencies in the political system that have continuously retard national unity.
Turning attention to President Ali, the institute has called on his administration to take note of the conference’s presentations and implement relevant measures to eradicate the systems and programmes within the governance structures that have promoted and encouraged the skewed allocation of developmental benefits and resources.
