By Nicole Telford- The People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Government has blocked Alliance For Change (AFC) Parliamentarian David Patterson. The Member of Parliament who is a part of the Opposition lead ten-member team was leaving on the 26th for the Washington Conference on 27th & 28th 2023.
Village Voice News was able to confirm from Patterson what happened on his arrival at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport Timehri. The Parliamentarian said “I arrived at the airport, cleared Immigration and Customs, was in the Departure Lounge, when an immigration officer came and told me that they made a mistake in clearing me, that the government placed a no-fly order on me. They were extremely apologetic.”
Patterson who is shadow Minister of Public Infrastructure had a big role to play today for he was one who has been assigned the responsibility to speak on oil and gas and the government’s management of the resources.
He told this publication when he learned that he could not travel he called his attorney, Mr. Nigel Hughes, who checked with the officer, who confirmed that there was no court order or anything such ~ just someone placed that note “in the system”. Hughes attempted Nigel “contact the senior ranks without success”
The PPP/C government has been under the critical spotlight of Patterson’s knowledge of infrastructure and oil and gas sector. He has emerged as a very prominent voice in society, who leaves no stone unturned in holding the government accountable, ensuring Guyanese get value for their money, equitably participate in the resources of the country, and these resources are exploited in a sustainable manner.
The Caribbean Guyana Institute For Democracy (CGID) President Rickford Burke has since condemned the government’s actions via his Facebook page in the strongest terms. Burke said “This Putin tactic by PPP racist and their henchmen in the Guyana Police Force, whose unlawful actions continue to incite racial hostilities. These repugnant attacks on Black leaders are clearly calculated to ferment civil unrest in Guyana and intimidate the political opposition.”
