Police investigating fatal hit-and-run accident

Seven Parties Vie in Elections

Police are investigating a hit-and-run fatal accident which occurred at about 19:50 hrs Sunday evening at Swan, Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
The accident involved pedestrian Shamar Charles, a 20-year-old resident of Swan, and a motor car with unknown information about the vehicle and driver thus far.
Enquiries disclosed that the motor car was proceeding South along the eastern side of the road at a fast rate. At the same time, Charles ran from East to West across the road, and the car collided with him.
As a result of the collision, Charles fell onto the road surface, where he received injuries to his head and body. The unknown motor car drove away from the scene. The pedestrian was picked up in an unconscious condition by public-spirited citizens, placed into a passing vehicle and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Center.
He was seen and examined by a doctor on duty and was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body was escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home for storage, awaiting a Post Mortem Examination.
