BEIJING, June 20 (Xinhua) — Chinese Premier Li Qiang will attend the 14th Annual Meeting of the New Champions, also known as the Summer Davos Forum, in Tianjin on June 27, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning announced on Tuesday.

Premier Li will attend the opening ceremony, deliver a keynote speech, and meet with Executive Chairman Klaus Schwab of the World Economic Forum and other foreign dignitaries, as well as World Economic Forum global business leaders.

Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Amor Mottley, Prime Minister of Mongolia Luvsannamsrai Oyun-Erdene, Prime Minister of New Zealand Chris Hipkins, Prime Minister of Vietnam Pham Minh Chinh and Director-General of the World Trade Organization Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala will attend the annual meeting, Mao said.

At the invitation of Li, prime ministers of Barbados, Mongolia, New Zealand and Vietnam will pay an official visit to China on the margins of the annual meeting, Mao added.

The theme of this year’s annual meeting is “Entrepreneurship: The Driving Force of the Global Economy.”

Addressing a press conference in Beijing on Tuesday, Chen Liming, chair of Greater China, World Economic Forum, said entrepreneurs are the creators of social wealth and the drivers of innovation.

“The primary focus of the meeting will be to spur new momentum for innovation and entrepreneurship worldwide to not only revive growth but also to ultimately put us on a firm trajectory towards a more equitable, sustainable and resilient global economy,” Chen said.

Approximately 1,500 leaders from both public and private sectors from more than 90 countries will come together for the three-day event.

The program covers six key pillars: rewiring growth; China in the global context; energy transition and materials; post-pandemic consumers; safeguarding nature and climate; and deploying innovation.

“The meeting will help participants gain a deeper understanding of China’s economic performance, high-standard opening up and strengthen confidence in long-term investment in China,” Gao Jian, an official with the National Development and Reform Commission, told the press conference.

Yang Bing, vice mayor of Tianjin municipal government, said the city aims to build the Annual Meeting of the New Champions into an important platform, foster both domestic and international dialogues and cooperation, and showcase Tianjin to the world.

“We will make the meeting a green, innovative, open and dynamic international event,” he added. ■
