Former first lady, Sandra Granger, has added her voice to the growing calls for an investigation into allegations made by a 16-year-old girl that she was raped by Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Nigel Dharamlall. From social media post, the teen , who is from the Indigenous Peoples, said the minister raped, sodomised and  forced her to engage in oral sex in the most brutal manner.

Mrs. Granger, herself a member of the Indigenous Peoples, said whilst in a court of law a person is innocent until proven guilty, the issue raises further concerns about the teen’s safety, privacy and rights. She questioned, who is counselling the teen to deal with the trauma, and said even is there is a monetary reward, “the accused should face the full might and majesty of the law.”

Govt eyes nationwide expansion of onion production after Region Nine success

Her statement follows:-

“In respect of the allegations made against Mr Dharamlall, I accept that in a court of law he is innocent until proven guilty. My concern is the rights of the girl child/victim. Who is protecting her and her rights. Pictures of her  are all over social media, with little thought to covering her face. Who is representing her and advising her of her rights and protections under the law? Who is counseling her as she deals with this  trauma? Even if  money is handed over as compensation, the accused should face the full might and majesty of the law. Will charges be laid?”  —Former First Lady Sandra M. Granger
