KING HITS MAIDEN TON AS WEST INDIES WIN SERIES OPENER

A superb maiden international century by Brandon King led West Indies to victory in the opening match on Sunday. The classy right-handed opener made 112 off 112 balls as West Indies raced to 206-3 in the 36th over in reply to UAE’s 202.

He struck four sixes and 12 fours in a majestic display of batting, King added 48 for the first wicket with Johnson Charles who made 24 off 19 balls on his return to the team. Then King and Shamarh Brooks added 91 for the second wicket. Brooks made 44 off 58 balls with five boundaries.

After Brooks was second out King kicked on and brought up his century with a superb straight six in an over where he struck three maximums. He got out at 193-3 with the win in sight, and then skipper a Shai Hope smashed back to back sixes to seal the victory.

The second match will be at the same venue on Tuesday. First ball is 4:30pm local time (8:30am Eastern Caribbean/7:30am Jamaica). (CWI)
