Parikwarunawa villagers successfully planted cassava in savannahs

The villagers of Parikwarunawa, located in Region Nine, has announced the successful completion of the planting phase for two acres of cassava in the savannahs. In a release, the villagers said they are now embarking on another significant agricultural project, having seen the success of the cassava project.

Currently, Parikwarunawa is in the process of preparing two additional acres of land for the cultivation of red peas, watermelon, and various vegetables.

To ensure optimal efficiency and effectiveness, the village is utilising a tractor and implements provided by the Government of Guyana through the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs.

Villagers said the support government’s decision has proven to be invaluable in facilitating the village’s agricultural endeavors.

According to the release, the decision to expand the crop range is rooted in Parikwarunawa’s commitment to sustainable farming practices and addressing the diverse needs of the local community.

By diversifying the crops, the village aims to maximise agricultural productivity and contribute to the overall well-being of the people in the community.
