Police investigating fatal accident

Police are investigating a fatal incident which occurred on 15KM Potaro Road Bartica involving motor lorry GAC 4427, owned and driven by 50-year-old Bramroop Raganauth, of Southeast Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara, and porter Kurt Ferreira now deceased, a 45-year-old of Lot 25 Swan, Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
 
Enquiries disclose that motor lorry GAC 4427 was proceeding along the 15 km Potaro Road at a fast rate of speed at about 5:50 hrs and While descending a hill, the driver lost control causing the lorry to topple. Raganauth and Ferreira received injuries to their bodies.
 
They were picked up in a conscious condition by passers-by and conveyed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where the driver was seen and examined by a Doctor on duty, suffering from abrasion about his body and was admitted as a patient in the Male Surgical Ward. His condition is regarded as stable.
 
The porter, Kurt Ferreira, was pronounced dead on arrival. Investigations into the accident are ongoing.
