By Alina Doodnauth- A Chinese company specialising in restoring precious artefacts and cultural relics said they are open to expanding their services to assist the Caribbean region.

Journalists visited the Beijing Leshi Cultural Relics Restoration Centre Limited on April 12, 2023, as part of a tour of Beijing’s Shunyi district courtesy the China International Press Communication Center (CIPCC), where they were able to see technicians at work on various culture relics.

The Centre is a business unit with experts and features state-of-the-art technology focusing on cultural relics restoration and related technological capabilities. It is the largest cultural relics restoration base in terms of scale, and the most comprehensive qualifications of movable cultural relics restoration in China.

The company was among the first batch of enterprises that obtained the “qualification certificate for restoration of movable cultural relics” of national collections issued by the Beijing Municipal Cultural Heritage Bureau in November 2016.

The facility spans 8,500 square metres consisting of a movable cultural relics restoration and display base at the National Base for International Cultural Trade (Beijing) and other places, fully equipped with security, fire control, and monitoring.

The company said dead-end monitoring, stratified zoning access control management, high-density infrared anti-theft system, peripheral power grid, fire prevention system and an around-the-clock security team are adopted to ensure the security of cultural relics.

Adopting the philosophy of traditional technique inheritance featuring “master-apprentice art teaching-learning system”, integrated with modern technology and a new concept of restoration and management, it has become an industry leader in China.

Zhao Bole, the company’s legal representative, describes the corporate vision as such “shouldering the social responsibility to build a new-concept heritage conservation and restoration enterprise so as to contribute to the promotion of traditional culture and art of the motherland.”

In October 2019, the Company was among the first to settle in the National Base for International Cultural Trade (Beijing), enjoying the preferential policies of “permit-free, duty-free and bonded service “for foreign trade inside the Free Trade Zone.

November 2019, Beijing Leshi Cultural Relics Restoration Center Limited established the Cultural Relics Protection and Restoration Centre at the National Base for International Cultural Trade (Beijing) together with Beijing Cultural Investment Development Big Data Co. and Beijing Cultural Investment Development Holding Co., and built a national artisan park for cultural heritage conservation and restoration of Beijing Cultural Investment Development Group Co., Ltd.

The team, which consists of over 50 experts specialising in cultural relic conservation and restoration, work on a range of mediums including paper, ceramics, metalware, silk fabrics, lacquer and wood, jade and clocks, to name a few.

The international-level cultural relics conservation and restoration center has demonstrated the function and role of the National Base for International Cultural Trade (Beijing) in promoting international cultural exchanges, strengthening international cultural trade and promoting cultural industry cooperation.

The Centre has also been actively participating in the overall construction of the industry chain of international cultural trade, strengthening exchanges with overseas cultural relics restoration institutions, and exploring the promotion of Chinese cultural relics restoration skills to overseas markets.
