Emad Mostaque, a technology entrepreneur, has been exploring the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on society. Mostaque believes that AI has the power to transform many industries and create new opportunities for individuals and small groups to compete against large corporations.

In a recent interview, Mostaque discussed Stable Diffusion, an open-source version of Dalle and Dalle 2, two AI models that use attention-based deep learning to create images and videos. Stable Diffusion allows users to input words, and the AI will generate an image or video based on those words.

Mostaque explained that Stable Diffusion was created by taking 100,000 gigabytes of labeled images and 2 billion images to create a 1.6-gigabyte file that can run offline on a MacBook. With Stable Diffusion, users can create anything from high-resolution apartment renderings to images of fictional characters like Gandalf from Lord of the Rings.

What’s most exciting about Stable Diffusion is its potential to render a virtualized world in real-time. Mostaque believes that in the next five years, Stable Diffusion will enable users to create dynamic, new forms of communication and interaction. He suggests that it’s only one step away from being able to render a movie in real-time just by inputting a script into the AI.

This development is significant for society because it represents a major evolution in human communication. Mostaque compares the impact of Stable Diffusion to that of the Gutenberg press, which transformed communication through written form. With Stable Diffusion, anyone can communicate through images and videos, not just those with technical skills or access to expensive equipment.

Mostaque’s belief is that AI like Stable Diffusion will allow small groups and individuals to out-compete large corporations in many industries. He suggests that if you’re an entrepreneur, a communicator, or an artist, you can leverage AI to become the most efficient and effective in your field. As AI continues to evolve, it will create new opportunities for individuals and small groups to compete on a level playing field.
