Guyanese have endured the oppressive rule the PPP for so long that they have become desensitized to the abuse, accepting it as the norm. People of all races have submitted to subjugation and adjusted to mistreatment, with emigration as the only hope for change. Living in Guyana means begging and groveling for basic necessities that should be provided by the government.
Juan Edghill must be begged to fix the deplorable roads in communities, Priya Manickchand for decently paid teachers and clean schools, Frank Anthony for adequate healthcare, and Ben for a reduction in crime. Citizens must also prostrate themselves before Jagdeo to access new business opportunities, while praising Irfaan for token gestures towards Indigenous and African communities.
The educated middle class cannot be relied upon for relief, as they are self-serving and will not risk any disruption to the flow of the crumbs they are fed. Those with nothing to lose may be the only ones capable of forcing this corrupt government to rule fairly or face replacement by the citizens.
Choosing authoritarian leadership is always risky, and the ruthless rulers of Guyana may not foresee the revolution that will inevitably come. Their failure to consider the effects of racial inequality on the country’s wealth will become more evident, particularly with the unforgivable oppression that African Guyanese face. Over the next 50 years, trillions of dollars are at stake, and every citizen will demand their fair share.
The PPP’s belief that racism and ruthlessness will protect their future is foolish. The only solution to the problem in Guyana is a government that respects all of its citizens and has strong institutions that ensure equal rights and justice for all. The PPP must reflect on the wisdom of sowing seeds of destruction and division today, as they will reap the whirlwind in the future.
