A 23-year-old resident of Pigeon Island Squatting Area, East Coast Demerara was nabbed by Police at about 19:20 hrs on Monday and when Police searched the haversack he had on his shoulder, they found a quantity of suspected marijuana and Methamphetamine.
The party of police ranks from the Beterverwagting Police Station were at the time performing Mobile Patrol Duty in the vicinity of Success Sideline Dam, ECD, when three identifiable men were observed standing. On seeing the Police vehicle, the men started running in an eastern direction.
The Police ranks exited the vehicle and chased after the men. One of the men was apprehended and later learnt to be a 23-year-old Construction worker from Pigeon Island Squatting Area, ECD.
Police carried out a search of his haversack and discovered twenty transparent ziplock bags containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stem suspected to be cannabis (marijuana) and 17 transparent ziplock bags containing a quantity of Crystal-like substances suspected to be Methamphetamine.
He was told of the offence committed, cautioned, arrested and escorted to the Beterverwagting Police Station where the suspected cannabis was weighed, and it amounted to 41.1 grams and the suspected Methamphetamine amounted to 3.66 grams. Investigation in progress. (Police Release)
