5 Caribbean queens make Miss Universe Top 16

Caribbean contestants had a great showing at the 71st Miss Universe Competition on Saturday as five queens from the region were among the Top 16 semi-final favourites with three advancing to the Top 5 and the Dominican Republic finishing among the Top 3 finalists.

The Caribbean queens who were in the Top 16 included Miss Puerto Rico Ashley Carino, Miss Haiti Mideline Phelizor, Miss Dominican Republic Andreina Martinez, Miss Trinidad and Tobago Tya Jane Ramey and Miss Curacao Gabriela Dos Santos.

The excitement continued to build in New Orleans as Miss Curacao, Miss Dominican Republic and Miss Puerto Rico were among the top five delegates to advance for a question-and-answer segment before it came down to the final three – Miss USA R’Bonney Gabriel, Miss Dominican Republic Andreina Martinez and Miss Venezuela Amanda Dudamel.

Miss Dominican Republic was announced as the second runner-up.   (Loop News)
