According to a statement from the Guyana Police Force, Police in Regional Division Three are probing a fatal accident that occurred on Tuesday, January 10 at Friendship Public Road, Wakenaam Island.
The accident, involving a tractor and a motorcycle, resulted in the death of 16-year-old Mohamed Ameer Khan of Belle Plaine, Wakenaam Island. Pillon rider 21-year-old Vikash Singh of Hubu, Parika, East Bank Essequibo is hospitalised in a critical condition.
According to the police statement, the accident occurred at about 21:45 hrs (9:45 pm) and involved motor tractor TM 17151 with trailer TMM 509 driven by a 63-year-old man of Free and Easy, Wakenaam Island. The motorcycle which was at the time being driven by the now deceased 16-year-old Mohamed Ameer Khan, along with pillon rider Vikash Singh, who is now hospitalised.
Enquiries by the police disclosed  that the tractor with the trailer attached was being driven north on the western side of Friendship Public Road Wakenaam Island, while the motorcycle was proceeding south along the eastern side of the said road in the opposite direction, allegedly at a fast rate of speed when the motorcycle driver lost control causing the front of the motorcycle to collide into the right side rear wheel of the trailer.
As a result of the collision, the driver and pillon rider both fell into a nearby trench on the northern side of the said road and received several injuries to their head and about their bodies.
The 16-year-old motorcyclist and the pillon rider were both picked up by public-spirited persons and taken to the Wakenaam Public Hospital where they were initially treated.
16-year-old Khan was subsequently transferred to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body of the teenager is presently at Ezekiel Funeral Parlor awaiting an autopsy.
The pillon rider, 21-year-old Vikash Singh, was admitted to the Wakenaam Hospital in a critical state.
