Minister Dr. Ashni Singh, who has responsibility for Finance, announced that Budget Day is Monday, January 16, 2023.

According to the minister, over the last several months meeting and consulting with various stakeholders including the Private Sector, Government Ministries, other agencies and Civil society.

At the same time many stakeholders such as the Opposition and trade unions have been excluded from consultation and having an input in preparation of the Budget in as much as Article 13 of the Constitution of Guyana outlines Guyana’s political system is built on “inclusionary democracy.”

According to the outlined article “The principal objective of the system of the State is to establish an inclusionary democracy by providing increasing opportunities for the participation of citizens, and their organisations in the management and decision-making processes of the State, with particular emphasis on those areas of decision-making that directly affect their well-being”
