Earlier this morning (Saturday), at around 01:56 hrs, police ranks from Regional Division 4’C’ nabbed a 34-year-old man from Vigilance, East Coast Demerara, who had a Glock 17 (9mm) Pistol with no serial number, along with two 9mm matching rounds of ammunition.

The Police in a release said ranks were at the time on mobile patrol duty in Friendship, East Coast Demerara, when they saw a male (whose name they later learnt to be Colwin Barnwell called ‘Timmo’), a 34-year-old vendor of Vigilance, standing with a black plastic bag in his hand.

According to the Police, Barnwell started to walk away and was told to ‘stop’, but instead, he broke into a run. The ranks said they gave chase and Barnwell was caught. A search was conducted on the suspect, and one Glock 17 Pistol (9mm) with no serial number, along with two 9mm matching rounds of ammunition, were found in his pants crotch, said the police.

“The suspect was asked if he was a licensed firearm holder, and he said ‘no’. He was then told of the offence committed and cautioned. He claimed that he bought the firearm when he was in the interior region — in Aranka.  Barnwell was arrested and escorted to Vigilance Police Station along with the firearm and ammunition, where it was sealed and lodged, and the suspect was placed into custody pending charges.”
