Police investigating alleged robbery with violence report

The Guyana Police Force in a release stated detectives in Regional Police Division No.3 are investigating an alleged robbery (with violence) committed on a 30-year-old taxi driver of Tuschen New Scheme, East Bank Essequibo on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at about 02:00hrs at Nismes, West Bank Demerara. Two males are suspected to be involved.

Reportedly during the robbery, the 30-year-old man was relieved of his vehicle, a silver Toyota Premio motorcar bearing Registration PXX 6084 (valued $2.9M GYD); One Samsung Galaxy J7 (valued $40,000); one Nokia cellphone (valued $4000) and thirty thousand dollars ($30,000) cash.

According to the release enquiries revealed the victim, on the date mentioned above, dropped off a passenger at the West Vybz Bar at Tuschen, where he was approached by the two suspects, who asked if he was working taxi and he replied in the affirmative.

The suspects then requested to be taken to the Demerara Harbour Bridge. Upon reaching the location, the suspects further requested to be taken to Nismes Village instead.

The police said the victim, when he arrived at Nismes Village, one of the suspects exited the vehicle and the other choked him from behind and dealt him several cuffs to his face and head, during which he was relieved of the aforementioned vehicle and other articles.

The suspects subsequently made good their escape in the car in a western direction.

Further investigations are ongoing.
