Deepak Ramdeen, a 29-year-old Machinist of Good Hope, East Coast Demerara, was allegedly electrocuted over the weekend as he and others were erecting a metal Christmas tree, about 27 feet in height, at the front of Gupta Ramcharran’s residence at Lusignan.

It is alleged that the star on the tip of the tree came into contact with a live wire overhead which caused Ramdeen to be electrocuted.

Police enquiries disclosed that on 2022-12-02 at around 23:00 hrs, the deceased (Ramdeen) and others were all erecting the metal Christmas tree using a crane attached to a lorry bearing registration #GCA 9708 that Darampaul Prettipaul was operating.

Ramdeen, along with Gupta Ramcharran, called ‘Billy’, a 45-year-old Fitter Machinist of Lot 139 East Lusignan; Mahendra Ramcharran, a 41-year-old businessman of Good Hope; and Shivraj Rulall, a 20-year-old of Mon Repos were in the process of erecting the metal tree outside Gupta Ramcharran’ home. This allegedly caused Ramdeen (deceased) and the others to receive electric shocks to their bodies. They were all rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

The deceased succumbed while receiving treatment, while Shivraj Rulall, Gupta Ramcharran and Mahendra Ramcharran remain patients at the Burns Unit at GPHC.

Investigations are ongoing. (Police release)
