Administrator of the Unit of Allied Arts, dies

The Minister, Officers and staff of the Ministry of Education are deeply saddened at the passing of Ms. Lorraine Barker-King who was serving as Administrator of the Unit of Allied Arts up to the time of her death.

Ms. Barker-King has served the education sector with distinction for over 40 years. She was instrumental in promoting the expressive and performing arts in schools. She was instrumental in the formalisation of the Allied Arts Programme in schools in 1991 and supported many other notable initiatives over the years such as the Schools Steelband programme, the Children’s Mashramani Competition, the Festival of Choirs and Drama Festival for schools. She also played a key role in planning and organising the National Schools’ Cycling, Swimming and Track, and Field Championships.
