Mazaruni Prison search unearthed cell phones, improvised weapons, narcotics, etc.

The Guyana Police Force in a release said a joint search was conducted at the Mazaruni Prison last Saturday, November 26.

The search was carried out in the following locations: the bricks, the security block, the dormitory, and the stores.

In the search, the Force said they found: – Three cell phones, 42 improvised weapons, eight charges, fifteen lighters, one knife, three scissors, and a quantity of suspected cannabis leaves, seeds, and stems were discovered.

The narcotics were weighed and amounted to 116 grams.

 

The prohibited items were lodged at the Bartica Police Station.

The search was headed by Deputy Commander for Regional Police Division #7 Deputy Superintendent Mr. Oswald Pitt along with Second in Charge of Mazaruni Prison Superintendent Mr. David Shepherd, assisted by ranks of both Bartica Police Station and Mazaruni Prison.

The Mazaruni Prison is located in Region N0. 7, about forty-six (46) miles up the Essequibo river, near the confluence of the Cuyuni and Mazaruni Rivers
