Attorney-at-law Mr. Eusi Anderson today dispatched a letter to Ms. Gail Teixeira, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance, on behalf his client Mr. Rickford Burke, President, Caribbean Guyana Institute for Democracy (CGID).

President not required to justify choices for constitutional posts – Teixeira - Stabroek News
Minister Gail Teixeira

The letter draws to the minister’s attention her claims that: 1) Burke was “complicit in extortion of GY$200 million from a Guyanese business,” and 2) “he is facing a sexual assault case in the USA” in her press release dated October 31, 2022.  Refer  Teixeira vs Burke: She says his is a “discredited image,” he says she’s “a washed-up relic”

The letter further states that “nothing in respect of the above has an abode in truth” and the contents of the minister’s missive “were calculated to malign and reduce” Burke “in the eyes of right-thinking men and women,” and “worrisome” coming from a public official.

Consequently, Burke is making two demands: 1) “a public apology and unconditional retraction of those comments before November 15th, 2022” and 2) “payment of GY$500 million in compensation  ….or an acceptable counter-offer…on or before November 15th, 2022.”
