Driver in Mandela Avenue fatal accident gets 5-year jail sentence

Following the fatal accident which occurred on Thursday September 15th, 2022 at about 01:30hrs, involving motor lorry GYY 5875 and motor car PVV 7062 that was driven at the time  by the now deceased 46-year-old Nigel Cush at the junction of Mandela Avenue and Vlissengen Road; the accused appeared in court on Thursday and was subsequently sentenced.

44-year-old Aslam Masood of Lot 10 Supply Mahaica, E.C.D appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court #1 before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan charged with the offence of *Causing Death By Dangerous Driving*, Contrary to Section 35(1) of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act Chapter 51:02.
 
When the charge was read to him, the Administrative Justice Act (AJA) was applied and Summary Disposal was granted, where the accused pleaded guilty.
 
He was sentenced to five (5) years imprisonment.
