Sergeant Dion Bascom, in a Facebook live which has since been removed, alleged that a major police cover up might have hindered the investigations into the murder of Ricardo Fagundes popularly known as “Paper shorts”.

In March 2021, Fagundes was shot and killed execution style outside of Palm Court while he was heading towards a car reportedly owned by his associate Roger Khan.

Sergeant Bascom claimed a security agent attached to a popular businessman was the main suspect in the murder investigation.

In the live video Bascom further claimed that the unsolved murder case of Ricardo Fagundes may have been influenced by close ties between senior ranks of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the businessman suspected of arranging the murder.

These allegations came after Dion Bascom was arrested by Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) in a drug trafficking probe. Sergeant Bascom said he was visiting his friend when CANU showed up and conducted a search and cocaine was found in the house. Bascom was arrested and released without charge.

Dion Bascom in a Facebook post hours after his live video stated, “[m]orning folks … I was forced to delete last Night’s live from my Facebook page …. My family grew very fearful knowing how wicked and vindictive some top ranks in the police force are.” He further stated, “I want to put on record that should anything happen to me and my family the police force which is being controlled by a particular gold dealer will be responsible. I was set up and continue to be set up and sidelined in the GPF after taking so many weapons off the streets and solving so many crimes.”

Bascom further stated that he stands by his words and would be ready to be challenged in a court of law and at a commission of inquiry.
