Boy  (16) killed for sitting on a man’s bench

Regional Division 4A police are reporting the alleged murder of 16-year-old Isaiah Smith of Middle Road La Penitence which occurred Monday afternoon at Hogg Street and Independence Boulevard by a 45-year-old male suspect who is currently in custody.

According to the police report, two eyewitnesses (aged 15 and 16) told investigators that they, along with the now deceased youth, were sitting on a bench east of the suspect’s dwelling when the suspect ordered them to move. The victim refused and was slapped by the suspect which led to an altercation.

The suspect then took a knife from his pants waist and stabbed the teen to the left upper abdomen causing him to run a short distance on Independence Boulevard before he collapsed.

He was taken to Georgetown Public Hospital by a taxi driver and a Rural Constable attached to Ruimveldt Police Station, where he  was pronounced dead on arrival by Dr Durga.

The body is presently at the Georgetown Public Hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem examination.

Crime Scene Unit ranks have since apprehended the suspect and the alleged murder weapon has been recovered. He remains in custody as investigations are in progress.
