Several orphanages and elderly homes will once again receive Christmas cheer this year, as GTT has donated two hundred thousand Guyana dollars in cash and cleaning agents to the American Chambers of Commerce and Industry Guyana (AMCHAM) for its fourth annual Thanksgiving Hamper and Christmas Drive.
GTT’s Chief Operations Officer of Home and Fixed Services, Eshwar Thakurdin who serves as a board member of AMCHAM Guyana on Tuesday handed over the cheque and items to the Business Development Officer of AMCHAM, Sarah Shaffie at its 79 Brickdam Office location.
He explained that one hundred thousand dollars will go towards purchasing gift items for children at the orphanages, while the cleaning agents will complement the care packages for the elderly homes. The COO lauded the Chamber body for its continued efforts in spreading cheer across Guyana through its annual thanksgiving and Christmas initiative. “We are delighted support this initiative since it caters to not only vulnerable children in our society, but also our elders. GTT has made a promise to strengthen our community and this initiative falls hand in glove with that promise,” he said.
Commenting on the donation, President of AMCHAM Guyana, Devindra Kissoon thanked GTT for its generous donation. He said, “We are extremely pleased that GTT has joined us in spreading cheer to the elderly and children who are vulnerable in our society. GTT’s donation shows its commitment in giving back to those in our society, and we look forward to future collaborations in giving back to Guyanese especially those who are in need.”
The AmCham team along with other donors will commence the Thanksgiving Hamper and Christmas Drive on November 20 and December 22, respectively.
In 2018, the Chamber started a tradition to spread cheer and joy to those in need for thanksgiving and Christmas tradition. In the previous years, a Thanksgiving lunch and Christmas Feast were arranged for the elderly and orphanages, respectively. However, due to the Pandemic the Chamber has resorted to creating packages to best suit their needs.
