Lone gunman robs Better Hope family of cash, jewellery

A Better Hope, East Coast of Demerara was held at gunpoint and robbed of their cellular phones, cash and jewelry by a lone gunman last Saturday.

The Guyana Police Force, in a statement, said the robbery took place at around 22:15hrs on Saturday, May 22, 2021.
The victims have been identified as a 21-year-old woman; 23-year-old housewife; a 44-year-old fisherman and a 45-year-old businesswoman.

According to the police, the victims were in their yard when they noticed a man enter the said yard from the gate.
He ordered them to ‘freeze’ while pointing a handgun in their direction. The victims complied and the perpetrator relieved them of their belongs, including one A21s Samsung cellular phone valued $70,000; one Samsung A10 cellular phone valued $50,000, one 10 pennyweight gold chain valued $100,000 and three gold rings valued $60,000; one Alcatel cellular phone valued $6,000; $80,000 cash; one diamond ring valued $175,000 and one gold band value $300,000.

“One of the victims who was seated at the time got up from his chair and was dealt a lash to the left side face with the handgun by the perpetrator after which he pointed the handgun to the businesswoman’s head and demanded money,” the police explained.

It is alleged that the perpetrator then ran out of the yard with the articles and cash, making good his escape in a white Axio motor.

According to the police, the suspect is identifiable, however, the car’s registration number is unknown.
