Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, Clinton Conway and four others have been taken into custody on the instructions of the Special Organized Crime Unit (SOCU) for allegedly defrauding the State.

On Wednesday, ‘A’ Division Commander Simon McBean confirmed that Conway, a member of the Police Service Commission (PSC), is currently at the Brickdam Police Station where he is being held.
Asked about the allegation of fraud put to Conway, Commander McBean said while the arrest was made by ‘A’ Division ranks, it was based on the instructions of SOCU.

“We are not investigating the matter so as it relates to particulars of the charge, I would not be able to say,” Commander McBean said while noting that the Division is merely a custodian of the prisoner. “That’s why I can confirm yes, he is here, and he was booked for fraud,” the Commander said.

According to a reliable source, Conway, who was taken into custody along with the four other retired officers, has been arrested for allegedly failing to review the Standing Order of the Guyana Police Force, though being paid $10M.
It is alleged that Conway was among persons hired by former Commissioner of Police, Leslie James to review the Force’s Standing Orders in 2018, though it had already been reviewed by the Strategic Management Unit of the Guyana Police Force.
It is alleged that Conway and the other hired consultants submitted the very Standing Orders, which were reviewed by the Strategic Management Unit.
