Dear Editor:

I believe I speak for his legion of fans globally when I say that Shimron Hetmyer must do what is necessary to win back his test place and do so with urgency. No one doubts that Hety potentially is the next Windies batting star in the mould of greats like Lara, Chanderpaul, Richards, Lloyd and so on.

But now that the test team is being somewhat reconstituted with a new dispensation that has seen some former players on the outside and the inclusion of players who are showing more discipline, better shot selection and the capacity to place premiums on their wickets, Hety need to inculcate these traits maximally in his cricketing makeup.

So please Hety seek the coaching help you need, engage in the kind of practice that will ensure you can eliminate your flaws, especially shot selections and batting indiscipline. The West Indies team needs you even though you’re currently on the outside. Your fans, including me, want to see you back on the field of play so we can delight in what we know you’re capable of. The onus is on you as it has been on every great player.

Sincerely

Annan Boodram
