However his appointment would have to be approved by the National Sport Commission, which is yet to be constituted.
The appointment of a sport director has generated much public interest with the names of several individuals being bandied around. However, Ninvalle a former Parliamentary Secretary and also Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Sports Ministry was given the nod. Ninvalle is currently the President of the Guyana Boxing Association and held other administrative posts in the sporting fraternity. Both Ninvalle and Minister of sports, Charles Ramson could not be reached for a comment on the issue.

Last week during his budget debate presentation Ramson told the National Assembly that he will appoint a Director of Sport at the end of the Budget session. He announced too that an investigation has been launched to assess the operations of the National Sports Commission since its commissioning. “The National Sports Commission was appointed in 2017 and in two years, they had three meetings. They never laid in this Parliament, never received audited statements. They never laid in this Parliament as they are required to do by the Act … they never reported to the previous Minister. The whole place was a disaster,” Ramson told the house.
