Raids on prisons unearthed quantity of contraband

Prison raids at the Camp Street and Timehri facilities have unearthed a quantity of banned items, the Guyana Police has said.

At 06:30 hours and 11:00 hours on Monday ranks of Regional Division 4A, Tactical Services Unit and the Guyana Prison Service conducted a Search at the Georgetown Prison Camp Street, Georgetown in the holding bays and compound where the following prohibited items were found and seized: nine cellphones; one cellphone battery; four cellphone chargers; 10 cigarette lighters; five improvised weapons (jukker) and one knife.

At the Timehri Prisons between 0610 hrs and 0930 hrs a Joint Services search found: six cellphones; a lighter; a quantity of ‘strong’ in 10 assorted bottles; a quantity of cement; one cellphone battery; one cellphone headpiece; four improvised weapons; 40 razor blades; a cellphone charger and a cellphone adapter.
