Certainly not a “conscience” vote!

Dear Editor
The following is offered in reference to “Jagdeo rails against opposition to Charrandass ‘posting to India”, Online, 10.2.21, Village Voice News.

Bharat Jagdeo’s attempt to reduce Opposition Leader Joseph Harmon’s criticism of Charandass Persaud’s diplomatic posting to India, is an attempt to shut down what are precisely very fair comments from the Leader of the Opposition. In plain terms, it is another crude attempt to obfuscate the facts about Charandass’ suitability or not.

The treacherous Judas act of former MP Charrandass is well- known and compiled and now occupies its place in CARICOM’S political history library as the most infamous act of political treachery, ever to occur within the local Parliamentary history of any of its member states.

For Jagdeo to be still mouthing the dark lie of Charrandass’ action being one of a “conscience’’ vote is just as treasonous, as the act itself, committed by the biggest political traitor in the nation’s history – an act that has no parallel in local, or, in regional politics. In fact, let it be reminded that it is the greatest of contradictions and further obscenity, for an MP, in this instance, Charrandass, a member of the Alliance for Change and the wider APNU+AFC Coalition, to have stood up in the august halls of the National Assembly, and in the presence of his fellow parliamentarians, spoke eloquently of his then government’s outstanding socio-economic record since its entry to office in 2015.

Editor, in such an instance, Charrandass had been defending his party and government’s record against the deception of a No Confidence motion, clothed in the falsity of parliamentary democracy. In fact, we all will agree that the motion was unnecessary as it was a hoax, the centre- piece of what was a grand conspiracy to remove the coalition via the devious route of regime change. Of course, it was proven as to Charandass’ role – the deliberate act of political betrayal by stabbing his colleagues in the back.
Such a former MP cannot be seen as a citizen standing on the ground of political morality, and who can be trusted. Simply put, he is a tainted national figure who can only be accommodated by his political handlers. No doubt, Jagdeo admittedly said that it was a “political decision”. A fact which Harmon reiterated when he concluded that Charrandass’ appointment can only be seen as ‘’a reward for and endorsement of his treasonous act.’’ This is an incontrovertible fact, which not even Jagdeo can deny.
Such a perfidious figure can no longer be perceived as credible, much less to be trusted as Envoy to such an important state. Jagdeo should explain the following: how can an MP TAKE A DECLARED POLITICAL

DECISION IN THE HOUSE OF THE PEOPLE, IN THE AFFIRMATIVE, AND IN A 360 DEGREE TURN, VOTED AGAINST IT? No No Jagdeo! Charandass’ act was never one of THE CONSCIENCE. CERTAINY NOT.

Regards
Shawn James
