According to Police, the accident occurred at about 16:30h. The pickup was reportedly driven by a 26-year-old make from East Canje, Berbice and was being driven west along the southern drive lane. The pedal cyclist reportedly rode from the northern access straight across the public road and into the path of the pickup causing a collision.

The cyclist received several injuries about his body and was rushed to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, and then transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he received treatment and is now said to be stable.

The driver of the pickup was subjected to a breathalyzer test which he passed but he remains in police custody assisting with the investigation.
