Reports are that the rank was hit by a truck which was proceeding along the roadway with a load of sand.

Eyewitnesses reported that the rank lay motionless on the roadway as other police officers and passersby summoned an ambulance. The injured rank, who is attached to the Ruimveldt Police Station, was taken for medical attention while the driver of the truck was arrested.
During the morning rush hour,  traffic along the East Bank Demerara between Houston and Peter’s Hall is usually restricted to three lanes heading to the city with one lane heading south in the direction of Timehri. This is to ease the congestion which usually builds up after 0600hrs during the weekdays.
