Taxi driver killed in West Berbice collision

A 29-year-old taxi driver from Manchester Village East Berbice Corentyne lost his life following a collision between his vehicle and another hire car on the West Berbice Highway Wednesday morning.

Deceased driver, Andre Joseph

The fatal accident occurred around 06:30 hrs and the dead driver has been identified as Andre Joseph 29 of Manchester Village Cotentyne. The driver of the hire car HB 2975  Joseph was alone in his vehicle at the time of the accident. He was rushed to the nearby Fort Wellington Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The driver of the other vehicle HC7197 yet to be identified was rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital in a serious condition where he is currently receivibg medical attention.

Two other persons said to be passengers in his vehicle  also received medical treatment but their condition was not regarded as critical.Reports stated that Joseph was driving east along the northern carriageway on the way to East /Berbice Coretyne and the driver of the other vehicle was proceeding west on the southern side of the roadway . Both vehicles were negotiating a turn on the # 22 Village highway when the collision occurred.
