A fire at Little Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD) has claimed the life of a 26-year-old woman who was trapped in the two-storey building.

The dead woman has been identified as Krystle Chung who lived at the Little Diamond house with her family. She was burnt beyond recognition.

Fire Chief Marlon Gentle said the fire started at 05:59h in the two-storey wooden and concrete building. It is believed that the fire started in the upper flat of the building.

Gentle told Village Voice News that the firefighters are still on the scene conducting their investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

The Fire Chief disclosed that at the time of the fire, five persons were at home, however, only four persons escaped the inferno.

Chung’s death comes one week after a 90-year-old man died in a fire in the Diamond Housing Scheme, EBD.
The man, Rupert Williams, was home alone at the time of the blaze, which evidence suggested was caused by a lit stove, which was left unattended by another relative, who went to a nearby shop.
