Venezuelan trio rob Port Kaituma businessman, reputed wife of arms, ammunition, $10M and jewelry

…Police, Coast guard shot at by suspects who escaped

A 56-year-old Port Kaituma businessman and his 22-year-old reputed wife were on Monday robbed by three armed Venezuelan nationals of one .223 Semi-Automatic Rifle with 30 live rounds and one magazine; one .32 semi-Automatic pistol with ten live rounds and two magazines; one 12 guage Semi-Automatic shotgun, G$10M and jewelry at their Waterfront, Port Kaituma place of business.
According to reports, the victims, Elroy Allam and Shonna Campbell were at their business when the armed men stormed the premises between 23:30h and 23:32h.

Police, in a statement, said that it along with the Guyana Defence Force’s Coast Guard based at Morawanna, Region One were immediately summoned. They responded swiftly and conducted a search along the Aurora River where Police came under fire from the occupants of a boat they observed heading in the direction of Morawanna.

“They returned fire, however the boat and the occupants made good their escape in the direction of the Guyana/Venezuela border (Imbetero),” Police said while noting that one of the trio is identifiable.

None of the ranks were injured. It is unclear whether the suspects in the boat were injured.
The area was canvassed, surveillance cameras were seen and footage of the incident will be retrieved, Police said.

Investigation is ongoing.
