Gunmen late Wednesday night opened fired on a Coldigen, East Coast Demerara (ECD) building once occupied Yuri Garcia Dominguez – the Ponzi Schemer – who allegedly scammed millions of dollars from thousands of Guyanese through his company – Accelerated Capital Firm Inc.
In a statement, the Guyana Police Force confirmed that the shooting occurred at around 20:50h on Wednesday at 242 Track A Coldigen ECD, a property once occupied by Garcia.
“Information obtained revealed that three unidentifiable males exited a motorcar, number and make unknown, and opened fire on the building,” the Police Force said. It has since launched an investigation into the incident.
Last August, the Government pulled the plug on a Ponzi scheme that was in operation here since 2018 where thousands of Guyanese had invested millions.
Initial reports indicate that Guyanese had enrolled in the Ponzi scheme where ACFI claims that it uses a foreign exchange platform to trade but records showed that all aspects of the scheme operate online via training webinars, WhatsApp and emails. The methods of payment used to invest and trade were credit cards or by wire transfer.
Further, investigations revealed that local banks had terminated the accounts of Ateeka Ishmael and Yuri Garcia Dominguez, and had refused their request to open a corporate account as a result of their due diligence.
In October, Garcia after being dragged before the courts, had agreed to repay the thousands of investors.
