Murder accused Kenford Downer

Close to a month after he was arrested for allegedly killing his wife and two daughters in an inferno, Kenford Downer appeared in Court and was remanded for the murders that left Bartica in a state of shock and sadness.

On Wednesday, Downer appeared before her Worship Crystal Lambert, during a Bartica Magistrate Court session, to answer to three counts of murder in the course or furtherance of arson. The session was held at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court.

Downer was not required to plead and was remanded to prison. The matter will be recalled on January 27, 2021.

The resident of Bartica is being accused of killing his wife Caroline Kennedy and her two daughters – five-year-old Mariana Downer and three-year-old Gabriella Kennedy on December 12, 2020.
They were reportedly burnt alive in a wooden house, located at Four Miles Housing Scheme, Bartica.

Initial reports indicated that around 22:00hrs on December 12, 2020, Downer allegedly set the house alight following an argument. He accused the woman of infidelity after he heard her talking on the phone with another individual. The man allegedly locked the woman and the two young children indoors before committing the gruesome act. Persons in the area noted that the house was flattened within minutes. The man was later arrested by the police.
