DPI – The Ministry of Labour has said a dispute between the National Industrial and Commercial Investments Limited (NICIL) and the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU) over 60 Wales Estate workers has been resolved.

In a statement, the Ministry said it intervened in the matter and the two parties reached an agreement on Tuesday.

After lengthy discussions between Chief Labour Officer, Charles Ogle and representatives of the two parties, it was agreed that all of the dismissed workers would be compensated for loss of wages, for their annual leave and will receive payment in lieu of notice.

Additionally, the parties also agreed that that the workers would be awarded severance for their years of service based on the Termination of Employment and Severance Pay Act.
