Baby found abandoned in bushes at Kwebanna

Preparation for a wedding by residents of Kwebanna in the North West District was put on hold early on Friday morning after a newborn baby was discovered crying in the bushes.

Reports are that several men who were visiting  the village heard the cries of the baby around 09:30hrs near the waterfront area.A search revealed the baby in the bushes nearby and residents who were preparing for a wedding quickly gathered at the scene.
The baby was rescued and taken to the health centre in the area. Arrangements were subsequently made for the infant to be medically examined at the Kumaka District Hospital at Santa Rosa.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
