As the United Kingdom (UK) grapples with a new variant of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), the Guyana Post Office Corporation (GPOC) has suspended the posting of letters and parcels to London.

GPOC made the announcement on Monday even as the UK announced the imposition of travel bans over the new variant.
“Customers sending letters and parcels to London are asked to note that all mails to this destination have been suspended until further notice,” the corporation said.

According to the BBC, European nations have begun to impose travel bans on the UK after it reported a more-infectious and “out of control” coronavirus variant.

Ireland, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Belgium are all halting flights. The new variant has spread quickly in London and south-east England.
GPOC said that it is monitoring the situation globally, and will make necessary adjustments to it services. “We regret any inconvenience caused and will continue to provide the necessary updates to our customers. Our website and social media pages are regularly updated with information. You can visit our website at www.guypost.gy, or like us on Facebook. You can also follow us on Instagram and Twitter,” the corporation said in a statement.
